Honoring 70 Years of Röjdykardivisionen with specially designed Landsort 459m
At Sjöö Sandström, we are proud to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Röjdykardivisionen, Sweden’s elite clearance divers, with a special edition of our Landsort 459m. These divers play a vital role in the Swedish Navy, specializing in locating and removing mines and explosive devices both in Swedish and international waters. Their skills are in high demand, and they regularly participate in global missions to disarm unexploded ordnance and improvised explosives.
Röjdykarna’s story began in 1951 when Swedish naval officer Rolf Hamilton visited the Royal Navy and recognized the need for clearance divers in Sweden. By 1954, their training base was established in Skredsvik on the west coast, and to this day, it remains the center for training new divers. Their legacy of precision, skill, and bravery continues. After completing their rigorous training, divers earn their badge along with the honor of carrying their mascot, Sir Anselm Zacharias Dykén, a playful symbol rooted in their history.
To celebrate 70 years of training elite divers in Skredsvik, we collaborated with Röjdykarna’s camaraderie association to create a limited edition of 70 watches based on our iconic Landsort 459m. This timepiece, designed to endure the toughest conditions both above and below water, embodies the resilience and strength of Röjdykarna.
Crafted from bronze, a material known for its resistance to saltwater and low magnetism, the watch is perfectly suited for the harsh environments these divers face. Over time, the bronze will develop a unique patina, making each watch as individual as its wearer. The dial is a rich midnight blue with a textured surface, and the second hand is inspired by the swordbreaker found in Röjdykarna’s insignia. At the 6 o'clock position, you’ll find their mascot, Sir Anselm, glowing in luminous material, alongside the motto “Non Deficere,” which means “Never give up.”
The watch’s luminous features glow in different colors to ensure easy reading in low light. The hour hand and hour markers on the dial are coated with blue luminescent material, while the minute hand, second hand, and bezel markers glow green/yellow. This color distinction helps divers easily differentiate between hours and minutes in the dark.
The case back of each watch features an engraving of Sir Anselm along with an individual number and personal engraving. This special edition of the Landsort 459m is not just a timepiece, it’s a tribute to the dedication and service of Röjdykarna, designed to be passed down through generations as a symbol of timeless strength.
We are proud and excited to collaborate with the Röjdykarna camaraderie association in celebrating their 70th anniversary.
